it all began when…
This event is named in honor of the grandmother of Carson McBain, an Emmaus Bible College student. Nancy died of lung cancer when Carson was young, and he has always wanted to do something in her honor. Combining his love for his grandmother with his favorite sport, Carson hosted what would be the first annual Nancy Fesi Charity Futsal Tournament on April 8th, 2017.
The first tournament was contested by 6 teams from the Dubuque area, with FC Cash Me ‘Ousside taking home the trophy in an event that raised roughly $500 for a local lunch cancer charity.
Year two saw Union Dubuque F.C. partner with Carson to increase the size and reputation of the event. A total of 8 teams, including an early-stage team of Union players, contested the tournament, again held in early April. The 2018 edition of the tournament raised over $1,500 for Free to Breathe, a lung cancer charity based in Madison, Wisconsin.
The 3rd annual version of this event will build on last year's successful tournament, and will introduce a youth division for players in U14 and U18 age groups (pending interest).
