Pioneer of Local Soccer Joins Union Dubuque as Club Ambassador

The board of Union Dubuque F.C. are delighted to announce the appointment of Jim Ott as Club Ambassador, effective immediately. Jim brings years of experience from both the greater Dubuque community, as well as from the soccer scene in the tri-state area.

A pioneer of soccer in Dubuque, Ott was instrumental in the creation of soccer programs at both Dubuque Senior High School and Marquette Catholic School (Bellevue, IA). He also served as the very first president and co-founder of the Dubuque Soccer Club upon its formation in the late 1980s. Along with his administrative experience, Jim has spent time playing with the Dubuque Steamers for more than 20 years.

This newly-created position will see Jim assisting in developing the club’s relationships and connections with the greater Dubuque community. Jim will also serve on Union Dubuque’s board of directors, bringing greater experience and enthusiasm for soccer in the tri-state area.

General Manager Cliff Conrad hailed the appointment of Ott as monumental. Speaking of Ott, Conrad said, “Jim’s connection to the city of Dubuque and its great people made this an easy decision to make. More than this, Jim is just the kind of man you want in your organization. He’s positive, enthusiastic, and will bring a lot to the table that we didn’t have previously.”

Having recently retired from his position as a psychologist for the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency, a position he held for 33 years, Ott found himself looking for ways to remain active in the community. Speaking of his recent appointment, Ott said, “Joining the board of Union Dubuque F.C. gives me an opportunity to continue to be a part of the growing soccer culture in Dubuque and to contribute to a program that will offer a great family experience for the community.”

Union Dubuque F.C. are moving forward with their initial plans to apply for membership in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) for the Summer 2018 season. For more information, visit our contact page
