Union Dubuque to Host Nancy Fesi Charity Futsal Tournament

Dubuque, IA - In an effort to raise the prestige of the event, and in keeping with the club’s commitment to the greater Dubuque community, Union Dubuque F.C. is proud to announce the second annual Nancy Fesi Charity Futsal Tournament. “We are so glad to be able to work on this event in partnership with Emmaus Bible College and its students,” said Union president Cliff Conrad. “This is such a great cause, and we’re happy to be doing everything we can to make it a great event.”

This year’s tournament will be held on Saturday, April 7th, in the Pollard Fieldhouse of Emmaus Bible College. The tournament will feature a double or triple elimination format, depending on the number of teams registered. There will be an open division, with teams composed of players ages 17 and up. At this time, the organizers are exploring the possibility of a youth division, pending interest.

The tournament was first conceived by Emmaus Bible College student and soccer player Carson McBain. A sophomore at the time, McBain wanted to honor the memory of his late grandmother, Nancy Fesi, who died of lung cancer when Carson was very young. “I have never been able to do anything for her, so this is my way of doing that.”

Registration will be handled on a per-team basis, with teams consisting of between 6 and 10 players. All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Free to Breathe, a non-profit that sponsors lung cancer research and assists those battling the deadly disease.
