Union Dubuque F.C. Appoint First Manager

Union Dubuque F.C. are delighted to announce that Jon Denham has been appointed as the club’s first manager.

A Chicagoland native and long-time Dubuquer, Denham will take the helm for the club’s inaugural season in the United Premier Soccer League. A four year player at Loras College, Denham has served on the coaching staff at Loras for the past 16 years, helping the Duhawks to 11 IIAC championships, five NCAA III Final Four appearances, and one NCAA III Championship Game appearance.

Union Dubuque F.C. General Manager Cliff Conrad praised Denham, saying “Jon has backed the club since even before we made any announcements. Jon sought us out to see what ways he could be of help, but having him serve on the coaching staff didn’t occur to either of us until much later. Jon’s vision aligns perfectly with what our board has set forth and we look forward to what Jon brings to our organization, both on and off the field.”

Concerning his appointment, Denham said, “First, I consider it a privilege to represent this club as the first head coach. Representing this city in this way is a unique opportunity and I’m grateful for the chance to lead the team on the field. I want to thank Cliff and the rest of the leadership at the club for their honest feedback in terms of what they believe this team can be, not just in 2018, but beyond. We’re going to lay a foundation for success and build this club from the ground up and we plan to do it side by side with the people in and around this growing city.”

Denham and the leadership of Union Dubuque will now begin the process of finding support staff for the team. Speaking of the what’s next, Denham said, “I’m looking forward to our tryouts and identifying the skillful and technical players we have in our area. When the whistle blows to begin our season, I think the city will see a group of young men they can be proud of.”

Denham lives in Dubuque with his wife, Sandy, and their son, Matthew.
