Road Loss Knocks Union Out Of Playoff Contention

An unfortunate loss away to RWB Adria means that Union Dubuque F.C. is no longer able to qualify for the UPSL Playoffs. Going into the game in a must-win situation against Central Division leaders Adria, the task at hand would always be tough.

Union traveled to Hyde Park in Chicago to take on RWB Adria on Tuesday night. Adria visited Dubuque just 3 weeks prior, where they broke down a 3 goal Union lead to win 5-4 on the night.

Union were hoping to exact revenge, and things looked promising when Dubuque took the lead just under 30 minutes into the game from a Bradan Allen header. However, an earlier missed penalty and other spurned chances would come back to haunt them, as Adria immediately equalized and took the lead just minutes later and never looked back.

After the half, Adria scored two quick goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead over the Dubuquers. Late pressure from Dubuque only managed to make dents in the Adria defense, never landing a solid blow on the Croatian club. Alex Lee was able to pull one back with a wonderful strike from distance, but it wouldn't be enough as the final went with the hosts prevailing 4-2.

The loss extends Adria's lead at the top of the Division table and takes them out of the reach of Union, who can now finish no higher than 3rd in the Central Division. Union line up next against second-placed Elgin Pumas in Dubuque on Saturday, July 14th.
